If you've put in the time on GTA V, you probably know the usual routine: grab a car, ignore the map, wing it. Exclusion Zone kills that vibe fast. I jumped in expecting the same old chaos and ended up treating every drive like a supply run, the kind you plan out with sweaty palms. It's a different kind of pressure, and it makes even side roads feel important. If you're the type who's also tinkered with stuff like GTA 5 Money to keep your playthrough moving, this mod still finds a way to slow you down and make you think twice.

The radiation system isn't a cheap "health slowly drains" gimmick. It stacks. You can be feeling fine, push a little deeper, and suddenly realise you've been cooking yourself the whole time. The closer you get to the centre of a contaminated area, the faster the exposure climbs, and it doesn't care how good you are at gunfights. The warnings feel surprisingly fair, too. Your HUD starts acting up. The screen fuzzes out with static like a broken TV. You try to keep your heading, but you're squinting through distortion and thinking, "Yeah, I've stayed too long." Hit the limit and it's not a dramatic ragdoll moment. It's organ failure. Lights out.

What really got me was how the hotspots reshuffle your mental GPS. Humane Labs becomes the kind of place you circle like it's cursed. Fort Zancudo isn't just a military headache anymore; it's a radiation problem with teeth. Same for the Sandy Shores Airfield and those industrial stretches by the airport and docks. You stop taking straight routes because "straight" might cut through a death pocket. Instead you hug cleaner edges, dip into alleys, and learn which hills and backroads keep you alive. It turns the open world into a puzzle you're always re-solving, not a backdrop you autopilot through.

Survival is mostly prep, and the mod makes that clear quick. Gas masks matter, and you don't treat them like cosmetics. They're tools, like ammo. You start thinking in simple steps: 1) scout the approach, 2) push in fast, 3) grab what you came for, 4) leave before the static gets heavy, 5) recover in clean air and reset. People talk about "loot runs," but this feels more like a raid where the clock is invisible until it isn't. If you want that old feeling of danger back, the kind GTA usually loses once you're rich and armed, Exclusion Zone delivers, even if you've stocked up with cheap GTA 5 Money and thought nothing could really touch you.
